It's already hard enough choosing a t-shirt design, and now that you've finally landed on one, you still have to decide on a fabric. And when you buy a t-shirt online, there is a problem of not getting the material's first-hand feel. Instead of just picking the cheapest option, which may also be the most challenging option, we'll get you up to speed on everything you need to know about choosing the right fabric for your awesome t-shirt. Let's get straight to it. We're going to break down the options and tell you everything you need to know before deciding on your t-shirt fabric.
Cotton- Cotton t-shirts have a lot going for them. They're usually the most economical option, and on top of that, they show colors off well. Your colors aren't going to pop on any other fabric the way they will on a 100% cotton t-shirt. Cotton t-shirts, however, are the least soft of the options, but still, there's no need for your 100% cotton shirt to be uncomfortable. At our factories, we don't sell shirts that we don't think you'll like. But that being said, there's always going to be a difference in comfort between 100% cotton and a tri-blend t-shirt. Also, not all-cotton shirts are the same. There really is a noticeable difference between one t-shirt company and the next.
Polyester and cotton blends- Coming in just a little softer than 100% cotton t-shirts are polyester-cotton blends. Polyester is produced through a chemical process, so you won't find much polyester growing outside — at least not the type that will be woven into your t-shirt. Polyester is often more heat-resistant, water-resistant, and wrinkle- and tear-resistant than 100% cotton t-shirts. They also give the t-shirt a little more stretch, which feels pretty nice.
Polyesters are used in a wide range of everyday items like bottles, film, and tarpaulin. They're also a major component of many wood finishes, especially for those found on guitars, pianos, and boats. Though plastic doesn't sound like the most comfortable material, it's a highly versatile material that's used in a bunch of places you may not have thought to look. If you haven't tried on a t-shirt with polyester (it's surprising how many t-shirts have some polyester in them), then it might be time to see how durable and comfortable they are
Tri-blends- A pretty self-explanatory type of t-shirt, tri-blends are a blend of three materials: cotton, polyester, and rayon. Rayon is the real magic here. It's a manufactured material, but it's not considered synthetic because it's made with an organic material, wood pulp. Through different manufacturing techniques, rayon can feel like silk, wool, linen, or cotton. It's pretty amazing that you can do so much with some wood!
Viscose- Often seen as an alternative of the less preferred option, they are still very much in business. Viscose is a type of rayon, so it's produced from wood pulp. It has some of the same qualities as rayon, but it's also similar to bamboo in being great for a workout because of its natural moisture-wicking qualities. As a material, Viscose is most suited for war clothes like hoodies because of their heat absorbing quality.
T-shirts have come a long way from becoming apparel for mine workers to become a rich history statement. It had a troubled start and even courted a lot of controversy before being accepted as clothing. However, since then, T-shirts have had a tremendous run, and now we have the luxury to buy t-shirts online. And we can't stress enough on the contribution of Hollywood stars in making t-shirts the rage they are today. Hollywood industry considerably contributed to t-shirts evolving from underwear status to that of a clothing element on its own. John Wayne, Marlon Brando, and James Dean were the first ones who shocked the audience by wearing their underwear on national TV. Marlon Brando wore his t-shirt ripped off in his film "A streetcar named desire," while James Dean wore his t-shirt without anything covering it in his movie "Rebel without a cause." Due to the movie's theme, the t-shirt was also considered a symbol for youth rebellion, and it was deemed cool and finally accepted.
So we now know for a fact that the casual wear like t-shirts to have that appeal which can challenge the convention straightaway. T-shirts may well stay in fashion forever. They can even keep themselves reinventing in the form of V-neck and round necks. Moreover, the t-shirts are the best apparel to make inroads in fashion if something is trending.
